Pontoon Boat Fishing Instruction (September through April)

Our pontoon boat instruction is great for those looking for a tidal James River guided fishing trip with loads of instruction. You will leave with a foundation of the basics of catfishing. Pontoon Boat Fishing Instruction is offered from the Discovery Barge II, a 24-foot, covered pontoon boat from September through April.

While fishing from the Pontoon Boat, you will get a general idea of boating on the the tidal James while learning how to catch blue catfish. You'll learn about seasonal movements of catfish, where to fish for them, how to catch bait and even how to filet a catfish (less than 10 pounds) if you wish. We'll target fish in the 5-20 pound range, but occasionally larger fish (and smaller ones) are caught. This is a great fall, winter and spring time fishery.

5-hours (up to three anglers):   $450.      Additional guests, $50
8-hours (up to three anglers):   $650.      Additional guests, $60

Price is for up to three people fishing.
All tackle, gear and bottled water provided.

To the right: When you can teach one of the finest anglers the Commonwealth of Virginia has ever seen, well that's something special. Here, Bill is next to me holding a 64 pound blue catfish ... the biggest freshwater fish of his life. A little background on Bill ... he has caught more citation largemouth bass (8 pounds or bigger) than anyone in the history of Virginia. This guy is a fishing legend. Bill passed away in December, 2013.  I will miss him and the way he used to smile, clap his hands, and say, "Come on Big Mama!"
